Sloan was a constant threat and he was always scheming about how to gain control of South City. He was absolutely psychotic. It was awesome because it was like kill or be killed.

Sloan was on the brink of death but then he was brought back and he became the new villain they had to defeat. Everyone thought the bad guys were defeated but nope.

I thought he was such a fascinating character. We also had Sloan’s POV and I actually liked being inside his head. To protect South City, he feeds on the souls of everyone who has committed a violent act and you can tell it’s really taking a toll on him. He was like a completely different character and I was begging for Kate to come back and remind him of how good he is because it seemed like he was letting his monstrous side eat him up. The recent events have hardened him and he has had to embrace his monstrous side but at the cost of his humanity. His character development since book one was astounding. Kate, on the other hand, doesn’t feel like she belongs and struggles with her inner demons and the loneliness she feels. What’s getting her through each day is every new monster that crops up.īack in Verity, August is now running an army and battling to keep South City safe from North City, which is now ruled by Sloan. I loved the new characters and wished we could have seen more of them because they were such a fun, quirky group of people.

We are introduced to some new characters, mainly a group of monster hunters in Prosperity which Kate becomes part of. Our Dark Duet picks up six months after the events that happened in This Savage Song. Even though Monsters of Verity wasn’t my favourite Schwab series, I’m still glad I read it and I can’t deny that it was a very unique series. I was a bit disappointed with This Savage Song but good news! I thought Our Dark Duet was much better and I really enjoyed it. When a new monster emerges from the shadows –one who feeds on chaos and brings out its victim’s inner demons–Kate must face a monster she thought she’d killed, a boy she thought she knew and a demon all her own… In Verity, August has become the leader he never wished to be, and in Prosperity, Kate has become the ruthless hunter she knew she could be. Nearly six months after Kate and August were first thrown together, the war between the monsters and the humans is a terrifying reality. August Flynn is a monster who can never be human. Kate Harker is a girl who hunts monsters.
